ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Dr. Brian Martens is a Lecturer in Archaeology and Ancient History in the School of Classics at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. He is an archaeologist specializing in the art and visual cultures of the eastern Mediterranean basin, and his research focuses on the history, economy, and trade of figural marble sculpture. He has over a decade of field experience in the Athenian Agora, where he supervises excavations in the industrial and residential neighborhood behind the Stoa Poikile. Dr. Martens received his Ph.D. from Oxford University.
